Our Category 1 (small, rural and/or safety net provider or organization) Award goes to The Queen Anne’s County Mobile Integrated Community Health Program nominated by Jared Smith with the Queen Anne’s County Department of Health in Maryland. The Mobile Integrated Community Health program team consists of a community health nurse from the Department of Health, a paramedic from the Department of Emergency Services, a pharmacist from the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health facility in Easton, MD and as needed, a peer recovery specialist or licensed addictions counselor.
Honorable Mention for our Category 1 Award goes to the Virginia Hepatitis C Education and Patient Connection nominated by Terry Kemp Knick. The program is a partnership between the University of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Health to provide collaborative care for hepatitis C in the rural Appalachian region of Southwest Virginia.
Our Category 2 (all other organizations) Award goes to the North Carolina Statewide Telepsychiatry Program nominated by Sy Saeed with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The program provides telepsychiatry services to individuals experiencing acute behavioral health crises in hospital emergency departments across North Carolina. Since its inception, the program has realized a return on investment of over $30 million dollars by preventing unnecessary hospitalizations.
Honorable Mention for our Category 2 Award goes to the Overcoming Barriers of Autism Spectrum Disorder at the Virginia Institute of Autism or VIA. The program was nominated by David Cattell-Gordon and Elke Jones Zschaebitz. In response to COVID-19, VIA has successfully transitioned its in-person School Program, Outpatient Behavioral Health Services Program and Adult Program to the use of video-enabled services.
